Meet the Artist

Brandie is a beautiful woman and mama. She has been creating dream catchers for family, friends and customers for over 4 years. Her connection to tradition and family is beautiful and inspiring. Her commitment to creating sustainable and renewable pieces is refreshing. Each dream catcher is made with grape vines that she harvests and entwines to create the base of the dream catcher. From there each dream catcher takes on its own form and pattern. She believes that creating is best done with inspiration. Are you ready to create with Brandie? History of Dream Catchers

Dream catchers originated from the Indigenous tribe of North America, the Ojibwe. The Ojibwe's word for dreamcatcher is asabikeshiinh meaning "spider," representing the webbing in the middle of the dream catcher. While many people and cultures consider spiders to be "creepy crawly," the Ojibwe consider spiders to represent protection and comfort. There was a maternal and mystical woman in the tribes that would be considered "The Spider Woman." She was the one who provided protection, especially for the women and children of the tribe. As the tribes grew and spread out, protection was needed and the dream catcher was born. They became the way for "The Spider Woman," to continue to provide protection.

These were initially used to protect children in their sleep from bad dreams and nightmares.

Now, dream catchers are used and created all over the world.

With specific intention and thoughtful creation, a dream catcher is sure to protect and comfort anyone.

Components of a Dream Catcher

Each component of a dream catcher has meaning

  • Hoop - The circle represents the circle of life, the circular nature of night and day, the movement of the sun and moon

  • Feathers - Light and fluid the feathers act as a ladder or pathway for the good dreams to land while you sleep
  • Webbing - Represents the spider web that captures the bad dreams in preparation of the morning sun burning them away

  • Beading - A few ideas are thought for the beads, whether the spider itself, or the good dreams being captured that did not pass through the web
