What do I do?!

5 Easy Steps

Let's be real, many of us are heightened when it comes to coughs these days.

All items linked on the article are used in my home. I am not a medical doctor, and do not claim to be. These are techniques and tricks I have used on my children. I do not recommend or advise any medical advise.

elderberry syrup

First thing, make sure I’m keeping up with my elderberry syrup. I give the syrup to my boys everyday during cold/flu season, and sometimes twice a day. I am extra diligent if we are out in public and I see them interact with other sick kids (runny noses, cough, etc.). There was a lot of talk about elderberry syrup this year, I have used and will continue to make elderberry syrup for my family. I truly believe making medicine for yourself or those you love really increases the effect. I will continue to make medicines with abundant ❤️ .

Vitamin C

My kids love these Vitamin C's. I have to limit their intake, the little wafers taste like candy 🍭 . When I am sick I will take up to 1500mg of Vitamin C. I have even read you can consume up to 1000mg per hour, during acute sickness. I give my kids (3 & 5 year olds) one 500mg wafer in the morning and one at night, when they are acutely sick. If they are seemingly tired or run down, I will also give a double dose. When we are not sick, we each take one daily. Here is the brand we use

four.

Herbal steams

  • Grab dried or fresh herbs – sage, oregano, thyme, rosemary. With fresh herbs rub and break up the herbs to release the oil from the leaves. I prefer fresh herbs for steams.

  • Boil a full kettle or a larger pan of water.

  • Place the bowl with herbs near child while playing, or sleeping. You are using boiling water, so please be aware of bowl placement!

  • Pour boiling water over herbs and breathe the steam.

  • This can be repeated a few times a day.

Garlic Oil

  • Smash 2-3 gloves of organic garlic.

  • Put into a jar without the outer skin

  • Cover the gloves with olive oil. Then put lid on the jar.

  • The oil is best used at least 4-6 hours after making. I usually leave the gloves in for 24 hours then remove. This one batch will last the entire sickness (if there is one).

  • Apply the garlic oil the the bottoms of the feet and cover with socks.

  • If the cold has already established itself I rub oil on the chest, back and lymph nodes in the throat.

  • I also use the garlic oil on the lymph drain – run your fingers under your left collar bone, from shoulder to neck.

  • This oil can be used a few times a day if needed.

📝 I have found when used on young ones – more gas can occur

📝 I also do not use when my boys have a fever. Garlic in very warming and spicy.

I do not use when a fever is present.
